And Ford, good ol' Ford. Wonder how they are doing? Thinkin' back to the turn of the millennium, and Ford was introducing gianormous vehicles, that were making me steam. The Lincoln Navigator and larger versions of the Ford Explorer spring to mind. And the Smart Car was a huge hit in Europe, and when Mercedes Canada was asked when they were bringing it to North America, they replied "there is no market". Ah, how things can change!

Meanwhile, our Japanese friends were working hard on the big picture, knowing that oil was a finite resource: Toyota introduced the Prius in Japan in '97, and world wide in 2000. Looks good on them now, and hopefully they are reaping the rewards for their forward thinking!

You know, I looked for Ford press releases and couldn't find May results. So I left them out. I don't know how they're doing.

If I remember correctly, the Toyota Prius just hit over 1,000,000 sales worldwide recently. It's a milestone, and in Canada, they have done more sales of the Prius in the last month, than they have in first 3 years when they first launched! Let's put it this way - the Prius has been a very good news story for Toyota. :)

Sorry - I'm not good at checking links in comments (the view I see is different from here) so perhaps I'm quoting from the same article you linked to?
